Understanding IIT-JEE Mains & Advanced
JEE Main
JEE Main, formerly known as AIEEE, is a crucial exam for students pursuing engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs). It serves as the first step in the IIT-JEE process and is essential for those aiming to qualify for higher-level exams.
JEE Advanced
After clearing JEE Main, students move forward to JEE Advanced. This highly competitive exam is required for entry into India’s prestigious institutes, including the IITs, IISC Bangalore, and IIST Thiruvananthapuram. Each year, around 2.5 lakh candidates qualify, making it one of the most challenging exams nationwide.
What is NEET?
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the primary exam for students aiming to study undergraduate medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH programs across India. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET has been the sole exam for top institutions like AIIMS and JIPMER since 2020.
Admissions Overview
Admissions to AIIMS
Since 2020, admissions to the 23 AIIMS campuses across India have been determined by NEET scores. This change replaced the previous AIIMS MBBS entrance exam, streamlining the admission process for students aspiring to join AIIMS.
Admissions to JIPMER
Similarly, JIPMER’s MBBS programs in Karaikal and Puducherry are now fully based on NEET scores. This alignment simplifies the selection process for students aiming to join top medical institutions.
